13 Missing Hikers Found in Placer County; Royal Fire Still 0% Contained | News

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says 13 missing hikers have been found in the Royal Fire zone.

According to officers, the men are aged between 16 and 20 and were found on Monday morning using a helicopter.



The Royal Fire, which broke out Sunday afternoon in Royal Gorge on the North Branch of the American River, is 168 acres and is currently 0% contained.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said an evacuation notice had been issued for five homes on Soda Springs Road.

Soda Springs Road is closed for 1.25 miles south of its intersection with Serene Road to the intersection of Soda Springs Road and Forest Service Road 6001-35.

More than 300 officers are currently involved in extinguishing the fire.

The Forest Service says the fire was caused by a campfire that escaped from the camp, but says the matter is currently under investigation.

Ground and air crews responded to the scene, but officials say the fire broke out in difficult and remote terrain.
