The man who died in an explosion at a German refugee center was from Ethiopia.

Police said the person who died in a fire at a refugee center in northern Germany on Monday was a 28-year-old man from Ethiopia.

A man’s body was found in a room at a facility in the Lower Saxony town of Buchholz on Monday after an explosion caused a fire. Investigators believe he probably caused the blast himself, police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The decision to conduct an autopsy will be made after consultation with the prosecutor’s office, the statement said. The investigation is currently focusing on the motive and background of the incident.

Twenty people, including a police officer, were injured in the fire. His life is not in danger but he has serious burns and is in intensive care, a police statement said.

The remaining injured, including residents of temporary housing buildings, were treated on the spot, while some of them were taken to hospital.
