45-year-old motorcyclist dies from injuries after colliding with truck in Tuas, 25-year-old driver arrested

SINGAPORE — A 45-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck at the intersection of Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim and Tuas West Road on Monday (March 25) morning.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to a road accident at about 7.30am.

The unconscious motorcyclist was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. Police enquiries are ongoing.

In a video posted Monday afternoon on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group, the truck was seen driving forward even though the light appeared to be red. The truck then suddenly stopped in the middle of the intersection.

The motorcycle then came from the right side of the frame and hit the truck. Both the motorcycle and the driver were thrown onto a nearby lawn and a traffic light.

From the motorcycle, debris could be seen falling onto the road and a nearby pedestrian crossing.

Last year, 136 people died in fatal road accidents in Singapore, a 25.9% increase compared to the 108 fatalities recorded in 2022. Half of all road fatalities were motorcyclists and passengers.
