No injuries in commercial building fire in Willmar, Minn. – West Central Tribune

WILLMAR — A commercial building in northeast Willmar sustained major damage in a fire Tuesday morning.

According to a news release from Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson, an investigation determined the cause of the fire was electrical.

According to Hanson, firefighters dispatched to the 1100 block of 11th Avenue Northeast received an additional report en route of smoke coming from the roof of the warehouse. They began aggressively attacking the fire inside, including the roof.

One crew went to the roof to cut access holes in the metal cladding, while a second crew entered the building to assess the extent of the fire.

Due to the need for additional staffing, the Spicer and Kandiyohi County Fire Departments were asked to assist.

The fire was reported at about 7:52 a.m. Tuesday, and Hanson said firefighters remained on scene until about 10:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The building and part of its equipment were damaged by fire, flooding and smoke.

The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by the Willmar Police Department, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, CentraCare Ambulance, and the Kandiyohi and Spicer fire departments.
