DEOGARH: In a horrific incident, a fisherman was allegedly killed in a dynamite blast while fishing in Rengali reservoir at Bhulkabahal village under Kundeigola police station limits in the district on Tuesday. Two other fishermen accompanying him narrowly escaped death.

The deceased turned out to be Khyamanidhi Dibar (50) from Asanali village.

According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when three fishermen went fishing at Rengali Dam in Deogarh. While they were trying to catch fish by blasting dynamite in the reservoir, the bomb exploded prematurely before it fell into the water.

As a result, the boat capsized. While Khyamanidhi died on the spot, the other two fishermen managed to swim to the shore and rushed to seek help from the villagers of Bhulkabahal.

Firefighters then reached the spot and recovered Khyamanidhi’s body. Later, the body was sent to DHH for autopsy.

Meanwhile, when officials from Kundeigola and Barkote police stations arrived at the spot to assess the situation, confusion arose over the jurisdiction of the police over the incident.

Police sources said both the PS officials are investigating the matter for now. The exact location will be ascertained on Wednesday. The cause of death is also not clear yet. While dynamite blast is suspected based on the statements of two other fishermen, the actual reason can be ascertained after receiving the post-mortem report, they added.
