A woman approached a person Friday morning and reported that a man was dead, police said last week. The person called 911 around 7:30 a.m.

Police found Gutzman in a home on Hatch Avenue near Chatsworth Street, and St. Paul firefighters pronounced him dead. He co-owned the home with his father, who did not live there, according to property records and James Gutzman.

Police have not released details about the circumstances of Gutzman’s death, citing the ongoing investigation. The department had not announced any arrests as of Tuesday afternoon.

Officers took the woman who reported Gutzman’s death to police headquarters for questioning by investigators, police said last week.

James Gutzman said police have not released details of the investigation into the death of his only child.

“Andrew was a kind, generous, and funny child of God,” he wrote in a message Tuesday. “He never judged people and gave everyone a chance. He loved the outdoors and felt at home in nature. He brought laughter and love wherever he went. This is a devastating loss.”
