Police investigate fatal crash on northbound I-69 near Markle

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A fatal crash on Interstate 69 near Markle closed the northbound lanes Tuesday morning.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the crash occurred before 11 a.m. south of Markle, between E 300 S and E 200 S, near mile marker 283.

The crash was ruled fatal shortly afterward, according to the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle struck a cable barrier on the interstate. It was unclear if any other vehicles were involved.

A Samaritan helicopter arrived at the scene along with other rescue teams.

Traffic that built up as far south as Warren was also affected by roadworks taking place near mile marker 286.

All northbound lanes were initially blocked, and at approximately 11:30 a.m. INDOT reported the left lane was still closed. By 12:15 p.m. INDOT reported the lanes had reopened and traffic was moving smoothly.
