2 children drown in separate incidents in Myrtle Beach area

Just days apart, two young children drowned in the Myrtle Beach area over the July 4 weekend, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

On July 5, 3-year-old Emily Hanna was pulled from a swimming pool just before 3 p.m. at a home on Brookstone Drive.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later, Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said in a news release.

Hanna was staying with family in Myrtle Beach but living in Hemingway.

On July 7, Lylah Dillon of New Milton, West Virginia, was pulled from a lazy river on Wild Iris Drive in Myrtle Beach. The 2-year-old was taken to a hospital, where she died at 5:58 p.m., Willard said in a release. Lylah had been on vacation with her family.

Autopsies are planned for both children, Willard said.
