NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) — Bail has been set at $1 million for the man accused of killing two children and injuring an adult woman in a stabbing incident.

Victor Manuel Gomez Acosta appeared in Clark County court Tuesday, where he also learned he faces two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

Investigators say he stabbed two children to death Friday morning in an Abbotsford trailer. He is also accused of stabbing a woman, who is recovering from her injuries.

Officers arrested Gomez Acosta at the scene. He was treated for self-inflicted stab wounds before being booked into the Clark County Jail.

No further details have been released, including the identity of the surviving victim. Police added that they would not release the names of the deceased children because of their ages.

The motive for the attack and any connection between Gomze Acosta and the victims remain unknown.

The 29-year-old man showed up with a lawyer who requested a mental competency evaluation. That request was not immediately processed, according to court records.

All three charges against Gomez Acosta carry potential life sentences. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 30.
