Police: Dunlap man arrested for multiple crashes during pursuit

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — Dunlap authorities arrested a man over the weekend after he threatened violence at a grocery store, fled from police and hit several vehicles.

The Dunlap Police Department reported that it arrested Lucas Cain Crawford on July 6.

According to police, Crawford threatened to use a firearm at Walmart. Officers said that although he made the threat, they did not find a firearm on him.

Dunlap police learned that Crawford was leaving the scene in a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt prior to their arrival. They saw him leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

Authorities said Crawford hit another car while turning onto Rankin Avenue and fled the scene.

Officers chased Crawford and said he intentionally hit two police cars while trying to escape. They also said he nearly hit other vehicles head-on while driving carelessly.

Police said Crawford hit another vehicle near Hobbs Ridge Road and Rankin Avenue. His car eventually stopped in someone’s yard, and officers took him into custody.

According to police, no one was injured in these incidents.

Crawford now faces the following charges.

  • Felony – reckless endangerment
  • Avoiding punishment for a crime
  • Serious attack on a lifeguard – 2 charges

The Tennessee State Highway Patrol is investigating these accidents.
