Prince William’s visit to a Royal Air Force base in Wales where he previously worked was accompanied by a new souvenir that instead of a joke nickname bore his official royal title.

On July 9, the 42-year-old Prince of Wales travelled to RAF Valley on the Isle of Anglesey for the first time as a Royal Honorary Air Commodore, a role he received from King Charles in August 2023. While it was his debut with his new title there, it was a return to his roots, as Prince William was stationed at the air base as an RAF search and rescue pilot between 2010 and 2013.

According to Rebecca English of The Guardian, during the visit, the Prince of Wales met up with his former instructor and drank tea from his personalised mug. Daily mail, and a close look shows that his royal title is emblazoned on the mug. The mug appeared to be emblazoned with the XXV Fighter Squadron logo and the inscription “HRH Prince of Wales,” signifying the style of His Royal Highness Prince William and the title of Prince of Wales, which is traditional for the male heir to the throne. King Charles announced that his eldest son would take the title in his first speech as sovereign in September 2022.

Prince William’s role as Honorary Air Commander at RAF Valley strengthened an already strong link with the base, which was announced last summer when King Charles granted new military appointments to nine members of the royal family, including three new posts for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Kate Middleton did not join her husband for his latest engagement in Wales because he is still undergoing treatment for cancer. The Princess of Wales made her first and only public appearance of the year at Trooping the Colour on June 15, joining her family at the King’s Birthday Parade in London.

“I am looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and I hope to attend a few public events over the summer, but I also know I am not safe yet,” Kate Middleton said in a statement confirming her attendance at the big event a day earlier.
