Telangana HC asks LIC to pay compensation to relatives of farmer who committed suicide – Telangana Today

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court Judge CV Bhasker Reddy on Tuesday ordered Life Insurance Corporation of India to pay a compensation of Rs 500,000 to the children of a farmer who committed suicide in 2022.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by Bobba Madhavi, wife of the deceased. The petitioners had complained about the inaction of the authorities and the insurance company in processing the death compensation claim filed on November 5, 2022, and non-disclosure of the claim amount of Rs 5,00,000 under the Rythu Bima scheme. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the petitioner’s family was poor and was running from pillar to pillar, unable to get the claim amount.

After hearing both the sides, the judge directed Life Insurance Corporation to deposit the entire amount in the bank account of the petitioner along with the interest accrued till date. He also stated that the petitioner’s children aged 9 and 12 years can withdraw the interest amount accrued till date and the total claim amount of Rs. 5,00,000/- as soon as they attain majority and thus the matter was disposed of.
