An Emirates flight attendant says she is stranded in the United Arab Emirates and has been accused of attempting suicide after suffering multiple attacks in her home country.

Tori Towey, 28, says she was the victim of severe physical abuse and attempted suicide when the abuse became too severe. She ultimately survived and was later charged with a felony.

She has also been banned from leaving the country, human rights group Detained in Dubai said.

This means he cannot return to his native Ireland and is due to appear in court next week.

Ms Towey and her family, as well as those detained in Dubai, have appealed to the United Arab Emirates for her release and to the Irish authorities for assistance in her safe return home.

She moved to the United Arab Emirates in April last year, but her dream job soon fell through. She said she was hospitalized after being beaten for hours, during which her passport was destroyed.

After leaving the hospital, she tried to exchange her documents but it turned out that she was banned from traveling.

Radha Stirling, of Detained in Dubai, said: “It is incredible that the authorities did not intervene to protect Tori, given the state of her body when she was first brought to hospital.”

Ms Towey stayed in a hotel for a few days before returning home, hoping the abuse would stop. However, she was attacked again, at which point she attempted suicide.

The woman survived, but when she regained consciousness, she soon learned she faced charges of attempted suicide and alcohol consumption. She was scheduled to appear in court on July 18.

Her mother flew in to be with her, so the two live together.
