Eight people killed in two car accidents in Iraq

(MENAFN- Nam News Network) BAGHDAD, July 11 (NNN-NINA) – Eight people were killed and three injured in two car accidents north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad yesterday, a police source said.

In one incident, three civilians and an army officer were killed when two civilian cars collided on a road near a village south of the northern city of Kirkuk, said Major Sabah al-Obaidi of the Kirkuk police.

Another army officer and two civilians were injured in the accident, al-Obaidi said, adding that the accident occurred during an overtaking maneuver.

In another incident, four civilians were killed when two cars collided on a main road between Kirkuk and Tikret, the capital of Salahuddin province, al-Obaidi added.

Last month, Abdul-Zahara al-Hindawi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, said a ministry report showed that in 2023, Iraq would experience 11,552 road accidents, killing 3,019 people, mostly due to disregard for traffic regulations and deteriorating road conditions. – NNN-NINA
