The name of the man killed has not been released pending notification of family. Police described him as a resident of the North East.

The man was found dead of a gunshot wound at 6:15 a.m. Monday on a sidewalk near an alley in the 5300 block of Byron Street, near Fred Wilson Avenue, police said.

A possible motive for the fatal shooting has not been released as an investigation continues by detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

On Tuesday, Colgrove was booked into the El Paso County Jail in downtown El Paso on a murder charge, where he remains held on $1 million bail, according to jail records, which do not list any prior arrests.

Colgrove, who has long black hair, a beard and an earring in one ear, smiles broadly in his booking photo.

Murder cases are down 50% from last year, with 10 cases this year compared to 20 in the same period in 2023, El Paso Police Department officials noted.
