Man seriously injured after being hit by truck on State Street

SALT LAKE CITY — According to police, the 32-year-old man, whose identity has not been released, was hit by a truck on Wednesday. He is in critical condition.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department spotted a man lying in the road at 1800 South and State Street. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life-threatening, said Salt Lake City Police Detective Dalton Beebe.

The man driving the truck remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with investigators.

“The initial investigation indicates that detectives and officers believe the man was crossing the wrong way when he was struck by the driver of a semi-truck,” the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a statement.

Police closed northbound traffic near 1800 South after a car struck a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the collision that occurred around 3:43 p.m. Wednesday.

SLC Police posted on Channel X that 1900 South to Coatsville Avenue at State Street is closed while officers investigate.
