No new fires were reported Tuesday in the DOF Northern Region – Alaska Wildland Fire Information

This is a report of fires occurring in the northern Division of Alaska Forestry & Fire Protection conservation areas, generally north of the Alaska Range. These include the Fairbanks, Delta Junction, and Tok Prevention DOF areas.

No new fires were reported Tuesday in the northern DOF region. Temperatures in the Interior are expected to be around 70 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday, but that will give way to cooler temperatures moving into the southeastern Interior. Isolated, wet storms are possible Wednesday and Thursday over the eastern Interior and the White Mountains.

As the fire threat decreases, all burn permit suspensions have been lifted statewide. This allows residents to conduct small debris burns, use burn barrels and complete small lawn burns with a valid burn permit. More information about the DOF Burn Permit program and current suspensions can be found at

Only two fires were extinguished in the DOF Northern Region on Tuesday.

Sam Creek 2 Fire (#359) – North of the Alaska Highway near mile marker 1369.5 there is a human caused fire in a full response area estimated to be 0.5 acres. Tok and Delta DOF firefighters completed their fire line around the fire Tuesday. After multiple grids of the area the fire was deemed contained and controlled. All resources were released and the fire was placed in monitored status. This will be the last update here unless there is a significant change.

Gold King Creek Fire (#276) – 46 miles south of Fairbanks in a restricted response area estimated to be 6,002 acres. 28 personnel assigned. The paratroopers demobilized Tuesday and transferred incident command back to DOF Fairbanks Area. The Chugachmiut Yukon crew and an unmanned aircraft system (UAS/drone) module remain assigned to the incident. Primary objectives remain to protect structures for the Gold King Cabin community and contain the fire west of Gold King Creek. A temporary flight restriction is in effect over the Gold King Creek Fire to ensure safe operation of firefighting aircraft. Pilots should check before flying in the area.
