SANTA CRUZ — Authorities have identified the 22-year-old pedestrian killed last week in a crash caused by a drunk driver on Mission Street.

Cody Stark-McCollum of Santa Cruz was reportedly in the street at about 3:30 a.m. July 3 near Laurel Street when he was hit by a passing car. The driver, Arthur Tessaro, 61, of Santa Cruz, was later arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

The driver was allegedly traveling south on Mission Street at the time of the crash. Stark-McCollum was taken to a trauma center, where he died despite life-saving efforts. Stark-McCollum was identified this week by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Department.

Stark-McCollum recently began a bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has been working locally in the medical field, according to his LinkedIn profile.
